Custom LED light lines · project-specific integration
LED stage edge lighting.
Built around your stage.
Flush with the architecture.
We configure and fabricate recessed LED light lines for stage fronts, platforms and access steps – including curves, special geometries and movable structures. Dimming and control are coordinated so the edge remains visible at reduced light levels without dominating the stage environment.
A photograph, drawing or short description is enough for the first technical assessment.
What the system delivers
A light line that becomes part of the stage.
The LED luminaire sits in a prepared groove and finishes flush with the surrounding surface. Luminaire body, LED configuration, cable exits and connections are coordinated around the actual edge.
- Flush with the material: for stages, timber platforms and parquet surfaces.
- Matched to the geometry: straight runs, curves and coordinated transitions.
- Matched to operation: light colour, output and control adapted to the venue.
For theatres, opera houses, auditoriums, event venues and multi-purpose halls.

Project-specific engineering
We adapt the luminaire to the stage – not the stage to the luminaire.
Bissinger Lights coordinates the luminaire construction, lighting effect, connections and control as one system. This allows the visible architectural detail and the electrical solution to be developed together.

Discuss your installation detail →- Stage front edge
- Lengths, sections and connections configured to the project. Individual luminaire sections and cable exits are coordinated with the stage construction. Position and lighting effect are considered from both performer and audience viewpoints.
- Curves & special shapes
- The light line follows the architecture. Installation geometry and LED configuration can be adapted to curved edges, transitions, ends and other project-specific shapes.
- Movable platforms
- Lighting that follows the stage configuration. Plug-in connections and coordinated cable routing can support removable, moving or retractable stage elements.
- Existing stages
- Retrofit around the available construction. Groove dimensions, installation depth and cable routes are reviewed against the existing timber, parquet or platform edge.
Two construction types · configured for the project
POM or SBS: the installation detail decides.
Both are recessed LED luminaires suitable for stage and platform edges. The correct direction depends on material, installation space, required appearance and mechanical conditions.
Flush light lines in timber and parquet.
The POM luminaire body contains the LED technology and sits inside the prepared groove. No additional visible aluminium frame is required around the light line.
- For stages, platforms and access steps
- Straight lines, curves and special geometries after review
For recessed installation with an aluminium profile.
SBS carries the LED technology within an aluminium profile. This can be appropriate where the architectural detail requires a defined mechanical surround and sufficient installation space.
- For steps, platforms and grandstand structures
- Installation width, depth and loading coordinated together
You do not need to choose POM or SBS first.
Show us the stage edge. We will assess the construction and propose a suitable luminaire direction before the final detail is released.
Realised work in Germany
Curved. Retrofitted. Movable.
These projects demonstrate how luminaire geometry, installation detail and system technology were adapted to different stage and platform constructions.
Approximately 9 metres of curved light line in an existing timber platform.
The POM light line follows the curve. Because the substructure was not accessible, the supply route had to be adapted to the existing construction. Power, backup capability and dimming were coordinated as part of the solution.

Visible in the dark. Restrained in the stage environment.
Position, light colour and brightness are coordinated with performers, audience sight lines and the operating concept. Bissinger Lights can provide the power and control technology from individual components through to a project-specific control cabinet.
LED technology and dimmer are selected together for stable low-level operation during performances. Different states can be defined for rehearsal, conversion or cleaning where required.
DMX is particularly relevant in theatre environments. DALI and standalone control concepts are also possible. Interfaces and lighting zones are coordinated with the venue.
Connection to a suitable backup supply or a dedicated battery, charger and power-supply arrangement can be considered where the project requires continued operation.
Installation groove, cable route and later maintenance
Before fabrication, material, luminaire cross-section, groove and cable exit are coordinated. Stage use, cleaning and future accessibility also influence the detail. The approved project drawing remains the binding installation basis.
- Define straight sections, radii, ends and transitions.
- Keep cable routes, power supplies and connection points accessible.
- Consider later replacement of LED technology or luminaire sections.
Dimming, 24 V technology and camera operation
The supply is configured around LED load, cable length and circuit structure, typically using 24 V DC. Stable dimming at low brightness depends on the LED and dimmer working together. DMX, DALI, separate lighting zones and project-specific programming can be included.
Where camera recording is relevant, the control concept can be coordinated with the intended application. Actual behaviour also depends on camera settings and recording frequency.
Controls & system technology →Backup power, batteries and the safety concept
If the central battery system has insufficient capacity or cannot be connected to the stage-edge lighting, a dedicated battery supply may be considered. Battery, charger, power supply and control are then engineered together.
Whether the light line is intended to perform a regulated emergency or safety-lighting function must be defined within the overall electrical and life-safety concept. Required runtime, monitoring, installation and testing remain subject to the responsible local planning and applicable regulations.

FAQ
Questions about LED stage edge lighting.
Installation, customisation and operation – the key points before starting a project.
What is stage edge lighting?
Stage edge lighting makes stage fronts, platform edges and changes in level visible at reduced ambient light. Bissinger Lights configures linear LED recessed luminaires that can be integrated flush into stages, timber and parquet. Geometry, lighting effect and control are coordinated with the intended use.
What can Bissinger Lights customise?
Luminaire length, segmentation, installation geometry, LED configuration and cable connections can be adapted to the project. Curves, special shapes and plug-in connections for movable elements can also be assessed. Power and control technology can be included in the coordinated system.
When is POM a suitable choice?
POM is particularly suitable for narrow, flush light lines in timber, parquet, stages and platforms. The LED technology sits within the POM luminaire body, so an additional visible aluminium frame is not required. Curved and special versions depend on the actual geometry.
When is SBS a suitable choice?
SBS is a recessed LED luminaire using an aluminium profile. It can be appropriate where the light line requires a defined mechanical surround, for example in steps, platforms or grandstand structures. Selection depends on installation width, depth and loading.
Can a flush light line be installed in a walkable surface?
Flush POM light lines are used in walkable timber and parquet surfaces. The selected construction, substrate and installation detail must suit the mechanical use. Exceptional loading, including rolling stage equipment, should be assessed separately.
Can stage edge lighting be retrofitted?
Yes, where the existing construction provides a suitable installation route. Groove dimensions, cable routing and supply can be assessed from photographs, drawings and approximate dimensions before a final detail is produced.
Can the stage edge light be dimmed?
Yes. LED configuration and dimmer are coordinated for the required lighting effect, including very low brightness levels. DMX, DALI or standalone operation can be used depending on the project.
Is stage edge lighting the same as step lighting?
No. Step lighting marks steps and stair routes. Stage edge lighting defines stage fronts, platform edges and changes in level. Where a stage also includes access steps, both areas can be engineered together with separate lighting zones where appropriate.
Can stage edge lighting operate on backup power?
Yes, project by project. Supply, control and required operating state need to be coordinated together. A dedicated battery, charger and power-supply arrangement can also be considered where the central supply is not suitable. Regulated emergency or safety-lighting requirements remain part of the responsible project-specific life-safety design.
What information is useful for an initial assessment?
Helpful information includes photographs or a drawing, approximate length, material and edge construction, plus any curves or movable elements. Dimming, control and backup-power requirements can be added if already known.
