Refurbishment & retrofit · Bissinger Lights

Modernise existing step lighting without replacing more than necessary.

What can stay and what needs to change? We assess the existing step-lighting system, define a suitable refurbishment approach and coordinate the new components with the existing installation.

Your existing installation

Not everything needs to be replaced.

Is the lighting failing, are steps difficult to see, or is the auditorium being refurbished? We first assess which parts of the existing system can reasonably remain. From there we determine whether individual components, the controls or the complete step-lighting system should be renewed.

Individual sections remain dark?
Identify the cause before replacing components unnecessarily.

The light is too bright, distracting or insufficient?
Assess light output, position and dimming together.

New seating, flooring or an auditorium conversion?
Adapt the lighting to the changed steps and construction.

Targeted replacement

Replace electrical components

If profiles and installation conditions remain suitable, we assess whether LEDs, power supplies or control technology can be replaced while retaining other parts of the system. Existing and new components must be technically compatible.

Retrofit LED step profiles

Where the step edge needs to become more visible, we assess a suitable profile against the existing floor finish, fixing conditions and required lighting effect.

Recessed into the construction

Integrate a flush light line

Where the lighting should be integrated into a step, platform or stage edge, we assess whether the existing material and available installation depth allow the required recess.

You do not need to select a product first. Describe what no longer works or what is changing. We will identify which refurbishment direction fits the existing installation.

Our approach

Understand the existing installation first. Then define the new system.

The existing step geometry, floor finish, cable routes, power supply and control system all influence what can reasonably be retained. Refurbishment is therefore treated as a system task, not simply as a profile replacement.

Work with the existing construction

Step build-up, flooring, cable routes and control technology are considered before components are selected. The aim is to retain usable parts and minimise unnecessary intervention.

Adapt where dimensions have changed

If an auditorium conversion changes dimensions or installation details, project-specific profile lengths, connections and other components can be adapted to the new situation.

Coordinate the interfaces

Bissinger Lights coordinates the step-lighting system with the electrical installation and other relevant trades. Technical support remains available after supply and integration.

Process & cost

From the first photograph to a defined refurbishment scope.

You do not need a finished specification to start. We identify which information is still needed before a technical solution and quotation can be prepared.

01

Show the existing situation

Describe the problem and send available photographs, drawings or approximate dimensions. Include the project location and preferred timing if already known.

02

Define what can remain

We assess what can be reused and what should be renewed. If additional measurements or an on-site assessment are required, these are coordinated before the final design.

03

Receive a defined quotation

Material and agreed services are calculated from the clarified scope so the intended work is transparent before the order.

04

Implement the agreed solution

We supply the configured system for installation by the appointed contractor. Depending on location and scope, installation or commissioning support can be agreed separately.

What determines refurbishment cost? Key factors are the number and length of steps, reusable components, accessibility, the existing electrical infrastructure and the agreed installation scope. If the scope changes later, additional work should be clarified before execution.

Integration according to project needs

Bissinger Lights can coordinate the system. Your local team can integrate it.

Projects with Bissinger Lights installation support

Depending on project location and scope, agreed installation or commissioning services can form part of the project. Responsibilities, interfaces and timing are defined before work begins.

Supply for the appointed local contractor

Where the local electrical or fit-out contractor carries out the installation, we coordinate the supplied components and provide technical information for the agreed interfaces. Additional on-site support can be discussed separately.

Before making a decision

Common questions about refurbishing existing step lighting.

Can existing cables and profiles remain?

We assess their condition, dimensions and technical suitability. For cables, relevant factors include conductor size, length and supply arrangement. For profiles, construction and compatibility with suitable lighting components matter. Photographs are useful for an initial assessment but cannot replace every technical check.

Does the auditorium need to be closed during the work?

That depends on the project scope and the work required on site. The implementation can be coordinated with operating schedules and available refurbishment windows. Whether areas can be treated in phases is clarified during planning.

Can systems from another manufacturer be refurbished?

We can assess whether existing components remain usable or whether a replacement solution is more appropriate. Photographs of profiles, connections and identification labels are particularly helpful. Compatibility with third-party components can only be confirmed after review.

What happens to dimming, DMX, DALI or backup operation?

Existing interfaces, supply conditions and the required operating behaviour are considered during the refurbishment. Backup-operation requirements are coordinated with the responsible project and electrical planning. Backup capability alone does not make step lighting a statutory safety-lighting system.

What information do you need for an initial enquiry?

A short description and available photographs are enough for the first contact. An overview of the auditorium and a close-up of a typical step are particularly useful. If available, add dimensions, approximate step quantities and information about the existing technology.

Technical coordination

Planning with your own electrical or design team?

Cable routes, supply, voltage drop and control technology all influence whether existing infrastructure can remain. The English planning hub brings these topics together for project coordination.

Your next step

Show us what needs to change.

Send a short description of the existing installation through the contact page. Photographs or drawings can be included. We will clarify the sensible refurbishment scope and the technical next steps with you.

  1. What is the problem? Failures, poor lighting effect, refurbishment or retrofit.
  2. What already exists? Photographs, approximate dimensions or drawings where available.
  3. Where and when? Project location and preferred timeframe if already known.
